A relevant publisher reaches an audience and covers subjects that make your resource a natural fit.
Publisher relevance is about the relationship between the linking page, its audience, your destination, and the reason for the citation. A broad domain score cannot tell you whether a particular page belongs in the conversation.
Map audience overlap
Describe who benefits from your page and what questions they ask. Search for publications, professional communities, and specialist resources that already help that audience. Look for genuine overlap rather than matching a keyword in the site name.
Assess the page-level fit
- Does the publication cover the subject consistently?
- Would its readers understand why your resource is included?
- Is the page edited and maintained to a reasonable standard?
- Does the site disclose commercial relationships and placement terms?
Prioritize editorial fit
Keep a short list of strong prospects and a specific reason each one may care. This makes outreach more useful and prevents broad, automated pitches. If you cannot explain the connection in one clear sentence, the prospect probably needs more research or is not a fit.
Relevance is not a single metric. It is a defensible explanation for why one page references another.
